The theme for the convention this year is MOAR, which means “More with a Roar.” That is exactly what is going to happen this year at the convention. There are going to be a lot of talented photographers attending and speaking at the three day event. Some of my favorite photographers will be there to enlighten and help motivate us to push and give our clients….dare I say it, MOAR.

There will be over 15 speakers in a three day flurry of activity. There will be workshops, speakers and live shoots to keep photographers occupied day and night.

After weeks of deliberation, we chose this picture as our favorite for so many reasons.  We love that the bucket, which initially seemed like such a random piece of art, turned into a beautiful backdrop for our portraits.  We were thrilled to see that the little things that were so important to us on our day were prominent in this picture, such as heirloom pearls and a shiny new wedding band.  And most of all, we love that the energy and emotion of the day is so vivid in our expressions.  Christobal captured a perfect moment that we shared after our ceremony and we are so thankful to have this reminder of our amazing wedding day.

We just had to throw in one more on how they used the bucket as a backdrop.

Just like their engagement session, the wedding day was no different. They were funny and always looking for an opportunity to make you laugh. I started off with the ladies and then headed off to see the guys.

The ladies were all smiles, especially Jill. Her blue bowed Kate Spade shoes were the talk of the room as they sparkled wherever they were placed. We just had to get a shot of her shoes outside because they were that great! I then walked into John’s room, guy paradise…Bojangles and beer. While putting on the suits, the groomsmen were consistently joking “it looks like we all are getting ready for a magic show” or “are we heading towards a morticians convention,” while laughing. The jokes never stopped and neither did the fun for everyone.

Guests started to arrive and were seated by ushers. The ceremony site was draped with linen from the ceiling to the ground. White accent lights with beautiful flowers from The English Garden marked the altar. Rows of linen-draped chairs lined the space for guests to sit in.

Jill was all smiles as she walked down the aisle to her future husband. John was beaming as he watched her slowly make her way towards him. The ceremony was wonderful and got everyone in the right mood for a great time at the reception.

After the ceremony, we headed outside for a couple of portraits as Megan, with A Southern Soiree, prepared for the reception. The floral table tops were beautiful and the uplighting really added a little something extra to the room. The details in the cake created by Cinda (Cinda’s Creative Cakes) was perfect and I am sure it tasted as good as it looked.

The first dance started off with a kiss as they danced with one another for the first time as husband and wife. DJ Frank keep the party alive and the dance floor packed throughout the day.

It was a wonderful day for a wedding and congrats to the bride and groom!

Many brides walked through the doors of Highgrove to view and taste some of the magnificent food they have to offer there. Couples walked around the beautiful grounds to view the lake and various nooks the estate has to offer for their guests to enjoy. DJ Island Sound provided a perfect mix of soft tunes for everyone to enjoy.

I will never forget the day I first met Christina. It was at the end of the wedding show and they were walking hand in hand down the aisle, while everyone was tearing down. I was with a group of friends when Matthew introduces her to the group. “Hi, I would like to introduce you to my friend Christina,” Matthew said. While everyone was saying hi, I said “So, Matthew, you’re holding hands, walking down the aisle together and she is only your friend?” I love Matthew and I just had to put him on the spot.

Flash forward. So, when I got the phone call that they needed a photographer for their wedding, I was honored. We are only at the engagement session, but I absolutely love this couple. We started off at the mall to shoot images at one of their favorite hangouts, Barnes & Noble.

They then had a wardrobe change and we headed to downtown Durham for something a little urban. Wow! We had great light, weather and every image flowed from one area to another. The images below are just some of the ones I loved from the session, but there a whole lot more.

I left the session loving life a little bit more. Thank you Christina & Matthew for the gift you gave me (Christobal) that day. You are both amazing!

Now Kristen is pregnant and wanted some portraits made. She informed us of her ideas and said, “I know you can do this.” We assured her that we could and we created some amazing photos.

We just had to share some of them with you. Thank you Kristen & Chris for believing in Azul and calling us to be there for your family. We are looking forward to meeting your baby and watching your family grow. Congratulations!

It was a perfect day for a St. Patrick’s Day wedding at Highland Baptist Church in Raleigh. Melissa was anxious, nervous and excited as she walked through the front doors with her bridesmaids. Her dress hung amongst the choir robes and the ladies were all smiles as the photographer documented the wonderful moments. All hands were on the bride as Melissa stepped into her gown in the choir room. Her mom and sisters were lacing up the dress, as the bridesmaids selected earrings for her.

The guys  stepped out of their vehicles wearing their groomsman’s gifts of argyle green socks while playing Careless Whisper by George Michael on their phones. Alex took deep breaths and shook his head as the saxophone solo played, while his groomsmen laughed.

“It’s finally here,” said Alex to his grandmother while she pinned on his boutonniere. He later read a personalized note written by Melissa as we headed outside for portraits. The doors opened to a sunny, pleasantly warm field where the sky was blue and the clouds were white.

Friends and family gathered in the sunshine filled church, waiting patiently for the ceremony to begin. As beautiful solos by the pianist played, guests eased into their seats. Ave Maria was played as the bridal party marched towards the groom at the end of the aisle. A smiling Melissa grabbed her father and slowly walked toward her future husband. The ceremony ended with a huge kiss and a joyous congregation. Some quick portraits followed of family and the bridal party together before heading downtown for the reception.

The Stockroom looked wonderful with country-style centerpieces on the tables and the aroma of great food from Catering Works. Guest were mingling with drinks in hand. The dance floor was brightly lit by sunlight which beamed through the windows. Melissa and Alex arrived to a cheering crowd as they made their way to the dance floor.  I couldn’t resist creating a silhouette image of the couple on their first dance.

Everyone danced a little while, ate, enjoyed cake and danced again into the night. The DJ kept the dance floor packed playing music for every generation. The night ended with several slow songs and you guessed it…Careless Whisper was in the mix.

Congratulations Melissa & Alex. You guys are wonderful and thank you for allowing Christobal to document your wedding!

We were located next to Classic Party Rentals as live music was played by Melonbelly under a stellar clear tent. There was lots to see and do at this intimate show.

The interior of the pavilion has an old cabin charm with twinkle lights everywhere and huge candle chandeliers giving off a warm glowing light. Under the round iron chandelier I saw Megan and her crew of coordinators from A Southern Soiree speaking with brides. Right next to her, was Sugarland,who kept the brides happy and Fresh Affairs‘ booth was stunning as always.

As the sun went down, Brides and their families headed outside to a crackling campfire near the lake.  The tent was aglow at this time with chinese lanterns hanging down to light the covered patio area as a purple sky loomed above it.

Our beautiful flowers were kindly provided by The English Garden and we absolutely loved them. Below are some detail shots for you to remember our booth and some others you might have visited.
